On April 15, 2015, Google released a new ranking algorithm that takes into account whether a website is “mobile-friendly”.
Any time Google updates their ranking algorithm, people get nervous, because there is always uncertainty about how this will affect their site. We spend a lot of effort trying to keep our websites as close to the top of Google’s search results as possible, so it’s disheartening to think that one update from Google can undo all of our hard work.
There was so much anxiety around this mobile update that some were calling it “Mobilegeddon”.
But don’t be alarmed. There are easy ways to tell if your site is mobile-friendly. Google has even provided a tool: just put in your site’s URL and Google will tell you if your site passes or fails.
